I'm very happy with my Roadater, for all the reasons Peter explains.
I like torque...the Roadster has lots.

In an ideal world I would have 3 Morgans. Sadly, pragmatism makes me choose one. My preference is for nimble handling in the lightest possible car - so 4/4 it is. The problem is that the best choice for me would be less than perfect for someone else - it is a very personal choice.
If you are unsure, find a dealer with a 4/4, a +4, a Roadster & a +8. Drive the. All and make a decision. Hopefully, one of them will surprise you and make your decision for you.

I went from a 87 4/4 4 seater to a 96 +4 4 seater... I did try a 2 seater at BHM but as one was used to the space and practicality of 4 seats over the years even without children to think about I just couldn't live with a 2 seater as my only car.
Hence my choice of the +4, on a +8 chasis with wider wheels make a massive differnance on drivability, more comfortable, nice gearbox, but of torque etc.. Also if I want more power I could put a rover v8 in it or a T16 Turbo for not much money..
I also think the traditional pre 99 4 seater is better looking than the new one with the hood off..

I went from a 2003 4/4 4 seater to a 2010 2 seater plus 4. I thought the 4 seater would be used as a fun family car but the number of times we went 4 up was really rare. Everyone will talk about the power but I have to say the best thing about the change was having better weather equipment and (even better) the ability to set off with roof off and side screen stored knowing if it started raining hard I could stay (almost) dry. The problem with the 4 seater was nowhere to store 4 side screens.
Minor point but you'd be surprised how many more times you set off in the Morgan. More power was fun too though !

To my mind the mid range torque is more important than maximum power. Every so often I take the engine up to near maximum revs but in the real world it is torque that counts for acceleration in overtaking, pulling out of corners, and so on.
For me I thought the 3.7 V6 was a bit much in a trad and in terms of additional costs of ownership (tax, insurance etc) I decided it was not for me. I somehow feel that around 200 hp is ideal for a trad Morgan and I would be very tempted to a slightly tweeked Duratec 2.5.
It will be interesting to see what it is that Morgan has planned for the future. The signs are that they have no intention of dropping the trad range but, on the contrary, are continuing development. I wonder if they are considering a turbo charged engine, Ford seem to be moving very much in that direction and are offering turbo charged engines on all their small cars. The main advantages would be light weight and loads of mid-range torque.

To my mind the perfect spec has to be the 4/4 anniversary model - all the charm of the 4/4 with the oomph of the plus 4. I'd just make the same sort of mods as Dave did to his yellow peril - remove the go faster stripes, chrome grille & so on.

Easy peasy Just order a bespoke Plus 4 with 5" wheels, stainless or black, depending on preferences. You can then have all the colours, paint, trim, hood, bright work, and accessories fitted as you prefer.

In an ideal world I would have 3 Morgans. If I could have two more they would both be Golden Oldies, Flat Rad & Trike' That way I would have the best of all worlds with the additional benefit of being able to get into all of the 'Age Restricted' events with at least one of them.
