I've followed you a few times G......you drive "briskly"  The IAM phrase is to "make good progress"!!! Yes, as an IAM green badge holder, I'm very familiar with that, even though I no longer have anything with two wheels (except a pedal cycle...).

This post has prompted me to replace my old (but tread fine) tyres. All arranged for tomorrow. Does it rain down there?

Good advice. I recently talked a friend who has a 4/4 into changing the tyres that were on his car from 1999. They looked good despite the many kilometres he had done but at 14 years old they were dangerous. He is very pleased with his new tyres. Makes me think about our 4/4 (Sitmog?), I changed tires already years ago, and choose for Michelin XAS, because our 4/4 has traditional "high" tires and the Michelins were also used as standard equipment by the factory. Michelin has made the XAS part of their classic tires range, and that made them very expensive. So what to do this year, I always like to stay close to original, and the XAS are fine and look good!

Same misadventures driving a recent VW Golf Convertible and my brother with a MB SLK. Both with excellent tyres.So I think that the Morgan is not in question but certainly diesel spills (even if we have to be concerned about the tyres,obviiously !)

Just come back from Chesham after a major hail storm in the Merc with snow tyres. They made a big difference but even then the back could break away easily.

sobering thread - tend to keep Mog in the garage when it's wet but sometimes of course you get caught out - had a rear end wobble back in September in torrential rain, quite scary, certainly made me think, slowed down and engaged sensible driving.....now have to change my otherwise perfect 10 year old tyres.....

Just come back from Chesham after a major hail storm in the Merc with snow tyres. They made a big difference but even then the back could break away easily. This is the answer: X Drive I have the 320i Touring M Sport. With winter tyres it is simply amazing. it has 60% drive to the back, 40% to the front but can be 100% to either end or diagonally! I've been trying hard to get the "traction contrl" warning light to come on, but so far have failed, even giving it full throttle in 1st pulling out on a very wet junction when the air temp was 3C. It just grips and goes. In the rest of LHD Europe I could have had a Mercedes C Class with 4WD but not here in Blighty. I could have had an A4 with 4WD but it is a front wheel drive car with part time rear drive, like the TT was. For the the full time quattro you have to get the very costly RS version
