From experience, the down side to these attractive screens is that any rain that falls on the bonnet runs along it as you drive along, under the screen and drops straight onto your lap. You get very wet rather than just wet. At least the standard ones do divert the flow to the side a little and possibly give more wind protection as they are sealed at the bottom. If you don't go out in the rain it's not a problem and they do look good.

If you look at old photos many cars that had these screens also had a low lip standing proud from the bodywork below and behind the screen or on the edge of the cockpit. The lip is about half an inch and it is supposed to deflect any water being blown back.
No idea if they work...!

The voice of common sense, thanks Ian, but I think I'll still try it and work out a way of diverting water and wind - it shouldn't be too difficult if we all put our heads together?

One of the Kimble screens looks like it is filled in underneath , so this would stop water and maybe cover the old screen slot . I guess the curved profile may be designed to fit a particular car .

Maybe not in keeping, but a rubber strip under each screen would keep out the wind & wet, still got the centre section of course to let in the water.

That looks like a nitro tank up front.
So who is going to be the first to fit a nitro kit to a M3W???

Maybe the plexiglass screens could be left in place but cut down to create a small 1" lip? Not sure if it'd work but the Brooklands screens look great and really suit the car..
