I'm just curious: Has anyone thought of an M3W with an auto box/automated manual (that is, paddle shift) like a Ferrari or Lambo?  The production Mazda MX-5 also comes in both gearbox alternatives; so what's stopping MMC from offering these options? The mounting lugs/brackets should be the same in the MX as in the M3W so fitting one of these shouldn't really be a problem...

Yes maybe possible to install,but the shifting must be adjusted,so the gear always stays above 2700rpm or around there,so it drives well and doesn't ruin anything else in the car.like the sounds when you try to drive it with the rpm low(not good)

MMC should be up to the job - they have all the resources. Now just imagine paddle-shifting the M3W up the Stelvio Pass (all 47 hairpins) and not having to take your hands off the wheel as you wrestle with it! The mind boggles...  ...and so does the imagination!

Well, well. I have DCT on my M3 and it is rather nice, but even single clutch paddles are nice. Is it not a bit too modern for our fairly basic wee playthings?
2022 Plus Four, 2023 Super Three, Range Rover Vogue SDV8 and Triking T3.

Of course, it would be [too modern] for the original 3-wheeler with its crash (non-synchro) box of the period, but a 21st century equivalent [of the 3-wheeler] would probably fare very well (or even better!) with a 21st century gearbox, if you see what I mean.

Nope, not for me. I like the M3W's freedom from modernity driving experience, without the older car unreliability.

I think MMC should concentrate on sorting out the M3W's problems - which is what they seem to be doing - without adding complication.

Actually, I think this is a very good time to debate the issues of the use of automated manual boxes, and the whole gear changing thing.
Like Donald, I had an M3, some years ago with one of these boxes, and I just couldn't make up my mind whether I liked it or not. It was certainly very clever, automatically reving the motor on the down changes, and very quick to change up or down the box, but it always left me stangely distant fromt he driving experience. After two years, I'd decided that for a keen driver, they were not needed, and if someone who is not a keen driver has one, then a standard auto would do nicely.
I have spent 50 years perfecting gearchanging and the use of the correct gear in all driving situations, and frankly, it is not a skill I wish to give up. I have an auto X5 for cruising, which I love, but all my 'driving' cars have good old manual boxes and a clutch. This is unlikely to change, even if a semi auto manual is ever available for the M3W, [which I don't think it ever will be.]

However, I would want it to have paddle-shift for other occasions. I am trying with difficulty to imagine someone using a 3 Wheeler for a daily commuting run in stop-start traffic...
