This one would be much more reliable than any Chinese-made unit. But it's still twice the size of the 0801! (Compare that in the video clip when the tester is holding it and the 0801 in the other clip...)

And for a car with a low windscreen like a Mog, that would obstruct the already restricted view, if you see what I mean!

Ideally, a dash cam the size of the 0801 but made in Japan or Korea would be what I'm looking for.

I bought my Sony HDR-AS15 from DogCam Sport, no connection but good service and backup.
I'm very pleased with the little Sony, it fits on the Trad windscreen on a small suction mount without too much detriment to visibility.
The picture quality is very good, especially in the image stabilisation mode, and battery life is good too.
You can set up the field of view via a smart phone or tablet using the WiFi link, though with the wide angle lens (120 or 170 deg field of view) it's not really an issue normally.

I guess the choice is between a dash cam that logs data such as gps position, speed etc for use in case of an accident or something that records decent video like the Sony or a Gopro but captures no data. The former seem to be Chinese manufactured with apparent reliability issues, the latter perhaps made elsewhere (just checked my GoPro...China!) to higher standards. I like my GoPro which is very versatile but it is really too chunky to keep on the windscreen for anything other than track days etc.

I forgot to add that there is a chap based in the Manchester area who reviews this type of "point of view" camera on YouTube. I've no connection; he goes under the name of "Techmoan" and he is worth a look for those thinking of buying a PoV camera.

Looked up the HDR-AS15 from the net and it's discontinued.

That's why I'm going to hang on for a little while longer until something reliable comes along... Just a small, discreet camera mounted on the windscreen behind the rear view mirror and which records a decent movie with a time code will be ideal...

I've got a Muvi Gumball 3000 and a GoPro. Neither capture GPS info without an attachment.

The GoPro captures better video but is a bit of a lump, the Muvi sits very discreetly on my dash and captures pretty reasonable footage. I usually have the Muvi running permanently when I'm on a long trip. Both have a remote but only the GoPro can be controlled from a smartphone.

The standard GoPro mount won't let a power cable be attached so you are restricted on battery life. So for constant monitoring get a Muvi, for making exciting on-car video, get a GoPro.
