Hi Peter,

Hifi has always been part of my natural environment. I actually remember singing English songs phonetically when I didn't even speak English (8).

Lots of CDS (most of them ripped to high standard compression or FLAC).
Lots of vinyls : latest acquisition was Buckingham Nicks (album that preceded the forming of Fleetwood Mac). Difficult to find. Total bliss.

In terms of equipment, I guess all that follows will be mostly standard :
- Lenco B55
- B&W speakers + 1 extra wifi-based Libratone speaker
- Onkyo amp
- Samsung DVD/cd player (budget ;-) )
- Airtunes via MacMini ( not happy with wifi though because of dropouts)

Cheers,
innocent

How else has and plays "proper" music on LPs?

And before I'm branded a luddite I have a top end CD player and all my CDs have been ripped onto my i-pod. I relish new technology when it fils a gap. Ls are neither convenient nor portable.

Yes I have a similar habit.... I did the LP12 (Valhalla'd and nirvana'd!) with a suitably ludicrously expensive arm and cartridge.

These days it's a Musical Fidelity pre-amp feeding mono blocks to Ruark speakers.

I also have a Sonos system through the house, which is not really strictly high fidelity - and also a fully equipped recording studio in a barn near the house. The recording studio is, as you might imagine, very high levels of sonic purity. I have quite a few master tapes of the original recordings from a few bands which I enjoy remixing.

Sadly a severe case of tinnitus has removed much of the joy of some of this stuff.

Hmm...Glad to see I'm not alone!

I worked out the "new for old" replacement cost of it all.
I could buy a M3W.
But I wouldn't.

It's not relevant for the Morgan as audio quality would be very hard to achieve.... But I note there is a new Sony Walkman coming out called the Sony NW ZX1, a high end device that will play WAV and Flac files (amongst other things). Built like a Leica.... A nice looking thing designed for high resolution audio.

That's being fitted in to our new house.

OK, let me admit the full story...

LP12D + Hercules (the new Valhalla)and Trampolin base, new Cherry plinth. Basik LV X arm, Ortofon MC cartridge.
ARCAM FMJ P32 pre-amp plus MC input stage, 2 X ARCAM P1 monoblock amps. Quad ELS 63 on stands, 1895 Vintage but re-built by QUAD in 2007 with all new panels. Interconnects by Chord.
Tube Technology Fusion CD, it has 2 x ECC83 valves as the output amplifier. Sounds amazing when the valves are fresh, but they last about 2 years of occasional use and are getting expensive, so the next upgrade will probably be a Naim CD.

Very impressive Peter.... Moi? 24" iMac and Spotify, iPad and Spotify, iPod and some Bose base unit. I'm confused over the cartridge .... Can't see where to fit it. wink

I've a couple of friends, ex BBC sound guys who are heavily into their equipment so I actually recognise some of yours! I try to upset them by telling them that I can't tell the difference between my set ups and theirs unless they try to blow their house walls off!

Then they wonder about me buying expensive cameras and shake their heads!

This place in Malvern is surprisingly good and well worth a visit. As well as tons of new and second-hand vinyl and CDs they also have some vintage hi-fi gear.

I can relate to your last sentence.
I have an old JVC midi, with a record deck, twin cassette and had to replace the DVD player with another make when the JVC died.
We do have a good selection of vinyl but I don't get much time to sit and listen...

As for all the rest of the kit in this thread confused2
