I too am waiting to hear when the new centa compensator will be dispatched to dealers. There is definitely a communication issue between Morgan and their dealers. No one can seem to get an answer. My view is that the mark 1and 2 compensator is not fit for purpose, hence Morgan commissioning the new version. It should be made available at cost to all existing owners.
Just for clarity, while I will be paying for the new compensator I don't know how much just yet and Mark at the factory didn't actually know a final figure when I left Malvern. If the clutch problem had not arisen leading to the engine getting pulled, then I would not have gone for the Centa unit. The compensator that was removed this week was a recently fitted one, was one of the last of the old style and was working properly. I was however a moderately long way from home (Blake may disagree on this point but he did cheat by flying in ) and I was not going to be paying for the substantial number of mechanic's hours required to change it hence the decision to bite the bullet and go for it rather than be driving around waiting for the dreaded clattering which may or may not have ever come. I believe that there are also at least some of the very early cars that are on their original compensators so "not fit for purpose" may be a bit strong.

I'm glad you got back safely and without further incident Calum. Aren't those M'way miles boring in the Three Wheeler? We must all think of a way of reducing the tedium in the car, a radio probably being the main one. I bought a headphone/radio set from Lidls, but it tends to lose stations quite quickly on the road, though it's fine when I'm mowing the grass! Back to the drawing board for that one then.
Can I echo the comments of everyone involved, great to meet you all, and good to meet the factory team and to know that they actually new that the fitting of the Spax shockers and different springs would cause bump steer, and that they were not learning about basic suspension and steering geometry from scratch. I'm only sorry that I didn't question why it took so long to sort out the fix at the time.

I've had one fail and replacement was getting noisy. both had seal failure. It's widely accepted that the Harley units from which the Morgan one must be derived will not stand up to up moderately tuned HD engines. The upgraded Morgan unit looks identical to the screamin eagle unit, complete with a more gentle cam profile. Have a look at the new parts book, it even has the sprocket still attached. The design of both is awful but interesting. Excessive Wear on the splines and damage due to bottoming out and undamped return is guaranteed. All problems well documented on motorcycle forums across the US. The fact Morgan have scrapped it says it all. The new damper will I am sure be massive improvement as I note that the smallest unit made by Centa will handle three times the torque of the 3W. Of course the way the torque is delivered is the main issue. I just want these made available cos I'm missing driving the beast. Can't think of a way to make the beast fun on the motorway but it's good to see there some other all weather 3W drivers out there.

Out of interest, what is the worst thing a driver can do re: the compensator, and what it the best way of looking after it?

Good point I've always kept the revs up and avoided racing starts from the lights. However I am a throttle blipper on down changes and I'm not sure the compensator will like that at all.

I met Calum (redthree) a couple of hours after he did his epic wet journey and he was chipper!
Great to meet him.
Mine might need a new compensator but factory want to test drive after a new bevel box which seems reasonable.
2022 Plus Four, 2023 Super Three, Range Rover Vogue SDV8 and Triking T3.
