If your going to go 2.0 Simon, it's only 200cc up on your present engine. You might be better off going the whole hog and aiming for a 2.5...  I think he wants a roadster but is unsure whether he would drive Stanley and a Roadster, mind you if one was yellow  The 2.5 that Williams can do will give you the power (and the glory) without the weight of a 6. But does it have the torque? After driving the 4/4, +4 and Roadster I felt the Roadster's torque matched the character of a Morgan well. The smaller engines seemed to need to be revved a lot, which they did well, but that didn't give the lazy torque that a 6 or an old, long stroke Triumph engine delivers.

Our 2.5L built engines make very good torque for a normally aspirated engine.

Actually, there is not much wrong with Stanley's Zetec engine,
However the gearbox is a fairly rudimentary affair in comparison with the latest Mazda 'boxes. My 2005 4/4 Zetec has the Librands "Quick Shift" fitted and this gives a really nice slick gearchange. It is still available from Librands: http://www.librands.co.uk/products-view-78.htmlI agree about the look of the narrower body and wheels of the 4/4. If I was buying new now I think I would go for the narrow body +4 which was sold as the 75th Anniversary 4/4 and is what Dave W has recently bought - "Mr Bumble". Nigel

'Cept it could be narrower... I do find the width of the later cars interesting. I was admiring Budsters Stanley a couple of weeks ago. For those that don't know it, it is a 2003 4/4 Runabout. What intrigued me is that it has the same body tub width as my 2010 4/4 Sport and the same dimension tyre/wire wheel combination but the wings are narrower. Can anyone shed any light on that?

Yes, that's a good point.
I too admire the proportions of older 4/4s and older wings. Does this maybe have something to do with the standardisation of the wings in the "post- superform" era?

when did they increase the rear axle? I thought post '97 4/4 cars were sharing the same dimensions... runabout included of course.
