I know I will regret posting this - but here goes
The Max and SS are clearly superb vehicles with one of a kind design and stunning in their almost artistic appearance - However maybe not in everyone's price bracket (well me as an example)
The question is why do Morgan not build an Aero again - why wouldn't you want a convertible variant of chassis and drivetrain that already exists ?
If as an example you are a current Aero owner and want to upgrade - you cant -Unless you loose the convertible element - which for me is a critical element of morganeering or move to a SS or even more unlikely due to rarity a Aeromax
Is there a gap in the market of a platform that already exists ? Is it as simple as finding a roof that works and then its good to go ?
I asked Charles at our meeting during the talk morgan tour and he seemed to take this on board
Any thoughts anyone ?

I suspect the new +8 is their answer, but to be honest I don't think it is.

It is a very good point and is difficult to understand why the 8 was dropped completely, especially as you say the same platform is waiting. The factory might say the Aero platform has a convertable option, that in the form of the Plus 8. I am sure cost comes into the answer somewhere, as you have said the price point of the whole aero platform range is steep and consequently sales volumes are lower and maybe don't justify the extra investment. Interesting that Charles himself was thoughtful to the idea, one thing is for sure things at Morgan seem to come around and keep returning, the Plus 4, Plus 8, various 4 seaters and the M3W all had their time on the "bench". Let's hope we don't have to wait 50 years for a revival.

The reason is smoke and mirrors: When Moragn sold the Aeromax at £100k, they saw (in my opinion) an opportunity to increase their margin well in excess of the Aero 8. Hence the SS (which has a similar Aeromax work/materials content) was launched at £129k approx. Cleverly they then launch the plus 8 (with a lower work/materials compared to the Aero 8) with a much higher price £85K approx. So for Morgan to re-launch the Aero 8, it would have to cost more than the plus 8 and probably into the Coupe price range. In short Morgan were selling the Aero 8 too cheaply compared to their current Aero range and I fear there is no route back without a massive cost reduction exercise.

With a good 4 year old Aero 8 at less than the price of a new 3.7 Roadster and the +8 at £85K the value proposition for older Aero 8s has never been better.
I've been looking at options for the future: a nice 2007 to 2009 Aero 8 makes sense. But if, after driving them, I'm not convinced then my 2009 Roadster may well stay for the long haul.

It would be really nice to see an Aero S5. Gajet could then sell me
his lovely S3 !

As Deano said / economics dictated and demand was there. With the plus 8 the range would be too close, and they would steal each other's sales and drive up the cost per unit.
A proper Eva with a TT 6pot from the new M3 would be the next step and probably fill the gap. Probably will retire the Supersports too though and cost 100k plus though...

As an owner of a car with "that" engine - be careful what you wish for. I have struggled to make it sound really good - and so it may end up with Morgan having to get custom made downpipes and exhaust systems - adding costs to the engine. An AERO4 with the 4-pot 2.0litre turbo from the 328 would be an interesting proposition - scaled down slightly to Plus 4 dimensions - E-type rear hatch, side exhausts.

The very point of owning a two seater sports car is that it has a soft top  . There has been no upgraded Aero 8 in Morgans range since the series 4 and again not for me because why would I want an automatic gear box when driving a sports car  . Surely its time for a manual series 5

Surely its time for a manual series 5 Scrap the coupe bit then - but a slightly shrunken AERO chassis would work. You can even have a manual gearbox - after all Morgan likes to keep things a bit "last century"
