The MX5 Mk3.75 NC will end production say summer 2014 as the new Mk4 /ND/ Alfa derivative will enter production late summer 2014 for an early 2015 launch.
Therefore I find it unlikely an engine based on the current MX5 engine will be used as Mazda will be using SKYACTIV engines in late 2014 not the current Ford based engine.

I agree with your point not to use engines which are short before end of life. Otherwise could it happen that Morgan can purchase "rest of stock" at a quite reasonable price point?

I was in touch with Mazda Germany a few weeks ago and they told me that the actual MX-5 (NC) will be build until spring 2015 and the new ND (MX-5 / Alfa Spider) will be launched only in autumn 2015 (perhaps at the IAA car show in Francfort?).

The last date was from Autocar which was a launch early 2015. So hardly set in stone.

It is slipping due to the current economic climate. Still planned but not a huge priority. Also Fiat have been pretty tied up with the Chrysler thing.
