It was fun to max it down the strip (when it was straight). I once took MrsW and MissW through the reserve (on foot) and they didn't rate the duckboarding which flexed under weight and squirted Ley water through the cracks. A magical place and I would hate to see the beach breached by the sea. We are in Dartmouth in early April Richard and we really should make an effort to at least have a beer. Obviously I have "family commitments"!!!

Also lose a chunk of history if that road goes. Maybe the USA could help it is a part of their history as well. Thar road from Kingsbridge go Dartmouth is magical
, I have enjoyed it from childhood visits to living down here. It will impact all the communities on the road. That's a good thought on the Operation Tiger front if the road really was facing closure I'm sure the USA might have a whip round, quite a few of them travel over for the anniversaries as you know. Magical is the word alright I never tire of it after 35 years, being lucky enough to have set up our family home here  Lets hope we can all enjoy it for a good while yet.

Properly smart duckboards down there now ..... There was a couple of serious bikers down the Line today doing at least 3 figures as I sauntered along taking in the damage. They use white vans down there now allegedly as a traffic calming measure - I haven't seen one or felt the draught but it's true apparently.

Great trip around the South Hams in the sunshine today, a bit shocking to see yet more sand dunes surrounding Slapton Line  The highways stated that they would not reinstate the road if it gets washed out again, so I guess we probably have maybe another 5 years of use left playing the averages. This would see Torcross effectively die. Bar stewards that is a wonderfull drive. Soon with the GWR crippled and that road out Devon tourism is being crippled. Yes it's a real mare John whether they go back on that decision we can but hope, for purely selfish reasons it's a great round trip for me Stoke Fleming - Torcross - Kingsbridge inland route to Stoke Fleming keeps the Morgan and my battery charged. Friends of ours run the Post Office/Stores in Strete and Torcross and closure of the road would certainly pull the plug on them. Thought about you tother day as I passed (often do)the Cider bar in Newton down East Street, incidently my wifes grandfather hailed from 17 East street where he practised as Journeyman Shoemaker before seeking fame and fortune in London Village - well ok a wife at least. ps They lost the Boathouse Café at Torcross last week with a fire would you believe. My elder daughter went to school with the two sisters that own it, the week before they lost windows etc due to the sea/gravel movement heartbreaking for them. Very sad. I spent my teenage years blasting around from Paignton via Slapton to Wonwell on various motor bikes. Sorry hear about the cafe. The cider bar in Newton was always fun, especially as us locals could order apint not a half.

Wonwell brings back a few memories of when I was a Marine just as an EXTRA in a couple of episodes of Hornblower which were shot on Mothecombe beach just opposite of course. Great fun and £150 a mad old couple of days. I did it in a couple of Flexidays from work. Love the preferential local treatment with the pints there, I bet that caused more agro then letting the unknowing drink pints.

Aldermog is more mix of dark blue and chalk mud grey... I'm going to see just how dirty I can get her before I give in... Before I wash her I'll photograph her just to show how bad it can be... Thanks for the encouragement Richard, I carry out my normal servicing and brakes etc. Rather embarrassingly I was 15Kg heavier than I am now and didn't have enough room to do anything other than breath rather shallowly whilst under the car let alone reach up into the tunnel area with the car on ramps. I have to get some highlift ratchet jacks and next time get it done myself because at that price £400 it's taking the Michael Bliss as they say in (Cockney) London Village. I replaced the front pads (Caparo) at 24,000mls because one had become delaminated from the steel backplate and the car would dive across the road under braking, not very good quality I guess although they sure stop you ok now. I read somewhere the tip is to chamfer the edges of the pads before fitting which wasn't done on mine originally I guess, time will tell.

I replaced the handbrake cable on my 4/4 Sport a couple of years ago after being quoted around £300! The cable itself was around £70. As it runs inside the car under the transmission tunnel it's a seats out, trim out job really. The hardest parts were fitting the cable to the handbrake as I couldn't get to it under the car with the axle stands I had and the gearbox cover would not come off the front bulkhead...too much sealer! Ended up cutting an access panel in the cover in the end. On the later cars getting the cable into the brake drums is a struggle. I gave up at that stage and took it to Mike Duncan who struggled....the hub flange gets in the way...and ended up pulling the hubs off to do it.
