Texas Independence Day commemorates the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 2, 1836. This event marked Texas’ independence from Mexico. Sixty delegates from all over Texas signed the declaration.

The Republic of Texas was annexed to the US by joint resolution of the US Congress nine years after the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed. The US Congress then admitted Texas as a constituent state of the Union on December 29, 1845. Texas Independence Day is an official holiday in Texas. Sam Houston Day is also observed on March 2, marking the birthday of the man who led the Texans to victory over Mexican troops at the battle of San Jacinto.

+1

He has all the key requirements for a Texas Govenor. Assuming you seek a return to the former Republic status.

Remember, one day the South Will Rise Again!

Personally, I favor a return to a Republic.

Thanks for the offer, but I think we will pass on that one.

Perry is stepping down in that he is NOT going to run again for the Governorship of Texas.
He IS going to make another run at the Presidency of the U.S.
He would be better than what we now have up there in D.C..

I spent 6 months in Houston through the summer of 1973, it was my first visit to the USA. The student nurses at TWU Houston showed me what true Texas hospitality meant. I've never forgotten those days....

Since then I've been to the USA so many times I've lost count, but based on my reception on landing there I claim Honorary Citizenship of the Republic of Texas!!

Peter,

Based upon your claim being made without hesitation or reservation to citizenship here, your experiences here, and time you have spent here; the “Spirit” of Texas hereby grants your “Claim To Citizenship” and are hereby dubbed an “Honorary Citizen Extraordinaire” of the Great Republic of Texas.
Welcome Sir Aldermog, you are now an Honorary Texan. cheers

Party On !!

I'm deeply honoured!

In anticipation of this momentous news I visited the Texas Museum in Austin and of course the modest Capitol building last summer. As a consequence my Passport is now embossed with the Texas Seal.
