I am in need of some assistance regarding the orange sidewall tires that are on the Gulf and Super Dry Editions of the M3W.

While trying to remove a spot of glue on one of my sidewalls, I managed to smear/remove a small portion [about .5” x 2”] of the orange colored sidewall which now has the black wall showing through. It does look pretty nasty.

I contacted my dealer here in the U.S. he told me that these orange sidewalls are painted on, not molded into the rubber. He contacted the factory and asked what was used for touch up of the orange sidewalls; the response from the factory was as follows:

“Unfortunately we are unable to supply any paint or even give you the colour to try and match it. We don't prepare them here at the factory, and the guy who does them for us has refused to give us the formula to touch them up.”

I find this to be a rather interesting response being I am sure that I am not the only one who has or has had such a need to touch up one of these orange sidewalls being they are not put on in a permanent manor. What does Morgan do when they happen to scuff an orange sidewall at their facility or during their assembly process or during test drives or during transport? Do they just throw it away? I think not.

I am in need of a source to acquire a touch up paint or marker to correct my mistake.

Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks.

Fred

You could try these people who make tyre art markers - perhaps they will sell you a tin!

Pretty certain this was the original company that produced them for Morgan, don't know if they still do. I tried several attempts last year to purchase a set from them no response.

I believe that PeterG is right with the supplier, getting a colour match is going to be a challenge.

Can you put the tyire on the other way with the damaged sidewall facing inwards?

Worst case.........

Strip the rest of the stripe off your tire.

Find a paint marker as close as possible

Make a simple jig to hold the marker in position

Raise the tire off the ground so it spins freely

Use the jig to hold the marker against the tire

Slowly turn the tire to make a new stripe

Thanks to all for your interesting and creative suggestions.
Color matching is indeed one of the most challenging parts of this endeavor.
I have already tried a number of different markers in trying to match the color, all to no avail.
I have sent an email off to Mr. Whitewall, being they are the ones that do these orange sidewalls for Morgan, my hope is that they will respond in the positive; we shall see.
I will post results when they are available.
