In order to have some control over the use (or misuse) of numbers it may be advisable to have a "First 1000" register and include the cost of engraving in the price of the badge.

Number 2 in stainless would be excellent. I will go home and see if 2" centers will allow it to be fitted to the air cleaner cover in the center Great work! +1 for #2 in stainless and being able to fix it in the middle of the air cleaner is an inspired idea

It seems #2 the clear favorite amongst respondents so far. There are a few elements that need tweaking still. If any one with factory connections would like to get them involved, it is fine by me. I am just the designer; as I said earlier, I will provide the free artwork and if needed help to facilitate the production, the rest is up to others to help out with (funding, distribution, etc.).
As for a register; I remember one that was started on the forums and it is probably on page 25 by now. Since the badges would be limited sales to people of this forum, I was thinking that each person would receive their blank badge and take it to a place with their info to get it engraved themselves.
As for metal color; copper, bronze or brass will look best with the gloss black enamel as the silver metals reflect black better making the gloss black enamel parts harder to read. In the end we will have to settle on one color to keep costs down.

Agreed about adding on the chassis number - there are lots o places that could easily do this as an etch or with stamped letters/numbers

I also think that this is an excellent idea.
All three designs look good but I also think No2 is the best.
Count me in too.
