I don't even have the drain on my oil tank. If I did I would tend to go for a valve plus a self sealing connector - the other half of the connector would live on a length of hose that can just be clipped on at oil drain time. I'd certainly feel happier with more than just a single valve holding the oil in when the engine is running.
I'll be sticking to the old fashioned disconnecting of the drain hose at the crank case method. Two or three disconnections a year should give me about a ten year lifespan for the hose which will probably be chaffed through elsewhere in five!

This is a great idea Q8...I made quite a mess with my funnel and hose setup when I did my first oil change...keep us abreast if you find a size that fits.
