I think that the S1 could use high-flow manifolds, and so exhaust fabricator I have been referred to by some Lotus friends is in talks to look at my Aero and see how difficult/expensive it would be to make some up. The ones sold by RTCC look appealing but are horrendously pricey, so I thought that I would explore another route.

At some point over summer I shall take my car to them for inspection – but in the meantime they would like some photos of the manifold area so that they know what sort of space (!) they are dealing with. Anyone able to help out here?

If they manage to design a decent system, all of us Aero owners should benefit as they’ll want to do more (that’s how I’m getting them to consider it, anyway!).

Thats certainly a good idea.
thing is fluid modelling is a compllicated expensive business.
The RT ones 'should' make a difference, but as far as I'm aware its not that they have been created in a cad lab and can scientifically demonstrate that they will increase airflow. If I'm wrong someone please correct me here.

(anyone used one on a dyno - thats where the proof is I guess?)

If you're just doing it by eye, there is no real guarantee that you're making a difference anyway.

As a one off, to do the modeling and create something thats a significant improvement will cost a lot more than the RT ones I think....

IIRC Kin had some custom modifications made to the exhaust on his S3 and so did Aeroman. It may be worth asking them what they had done. sherlock

Exhaust modifications are one thing.

There are in theory two cats in the Aero exhaust - one at the top before the pipes split left and right and on each side in the wings.

you could in theory improve the airflow by takign the cats out first. Even improving the headers will not make a great deal of difference without some work here too I would think.

Cerial - we need you as you actually know a but about this kind of thing!

Harry I'm assuming you mean the main manifolds coming off the engine?

I do. I am with you in that I think "sports" cats are probably the best initial modification - anyone have any idea?

I believe Aeroman had sports cats made for his sidepipes.
I've been thinking about going the same way on the S1, but to be honest getting sidepipes on the S1 seems like a pretty expensive move - and I like my deep rumbly rear oval sports pipes a lot.

Just have to keep on saving for the new GTN when it comes along...

I am certain Cereal will wan to make an input on this as he has been looking into this too... waiting

At Race Retro I cam across these people:

www.simpsonraceexhausts.com

They are based in Langley, Berkshire and have alot of race experience and clients. They do a Saturday morning 'drop in' where you can get your car looked at and quoted for a manifold.

If your looking for race cats then Demon Tweeks have some see:

thanks Phil- you've just saved me a trip to Bristol- I was looking for someone to get the exhaust below 98dB for a Goodwood track day, and I see Simpson do silencers and in house noise testing!
