Found the rubber on the brake pedal has become detached: it has torn at the back.

From the look of the metal pedal it seems as if the rubber is glued on, but with what?

Given the state of the rubber I think I'll splash out and get a new one, and a matching one for the clutch!

Advice on sticking them in place welcome!

Depending on the layout of your pedals, all the pedal rubbers do is make harder to go from the accelerator to the brake.

Clean pedals thoroughly, and stick on the self adhesive emery you get for skateboards. Cheap, easy and better than rubbers.

I may be wrong, but I think the glue was somebody trying to fix it in the past. I don't think as new there was any glue. Tricky to make recommendations as to glue as although Evostick is good for rubber to metal, it's a contact adhesive and won't permit the rubber to be slid into place on a dried surface and wet, it may not stick at all.

I've replaced two sets on my 2009 Sport and no adhesive traces found or seemingly needed.

I lost the brake pedal rubber on the P4SS after half a year and never replaced it because it is mich easier and faster to go from the throttle to the brake. There was no glue. I always take care to check if the sole of shoe is dry and not slippery. The tip to use self adhesive emery for skateboards is an unvaluable help (and so plausible).

Fully support the Skateboard Emery route. The Morgan has it and I recently fitted to my MGB as well

Anybody tried the kind of screw-on perforated aluminium pedal covers available on-line?

When I changed mine (worn) they were glued on (some form of contact adhesive I would suggest). My new ones are simply held on by the rubber edges (tricky to fit as they are such a close fit).

First time I removed the carpet in my low mileage 4/4, I found a spare pedal rubber on the floor!

After a while the pedal rubbers fell off.
I never bothred to do anything with, so I drive on the bare metal.
The rubber I keep in my desk drawer. In winter I take it out and look at them thinking of spring time.

I am not surprised they fell off, cause the rubber casting is very rough, and the quality of the rubber has properties similar to licorice.

No and not sure they are legal for road use. But I'd not worry if you wanted them on clutch and brake as my experience is they are not usually tested, despite being a testable item.

So is this an MOT problem? I'm sure I've seen photos on TM of Mogs fitted with perforated metal pedals or pedal covers on brake and clutch.
