After replacing the voltage regulator and putting the long wire through the protective sleeve, I noticed another small size wire coming out of the sleeve and ending at about the level of the quick disconnect for the regulator. This wire had a bare end ,but can not see where it came from.everything seems to work ok.----also the new regulator has different mounting holes that have to be drilled in the mounting plate, no big deal, but when the rubber mounting bolts have been over torqued from the factory it breaks the bolt loose from the rubber and you can't take the nut off with out cutting them out of the rubber. these are the same rubber mounts on the exhaust, same problem.

The short lead with a circular lug on the end is a ground wire. When I replaced my regulator, I put it under a nut on the frame side. The factory had added a separate ground cable that ran from a securing nut on the regulator body to a nut on the frame side.

I used exhaust heat wrap between it & the plate.fits directly into the holes without using the bobbins that wear out really fast.now its been working for a few monthes perfectly without any issues,i have the gauge reading on volts all the time.and all is fine

Well mine finally bit the dust, from Leeds to LeMans I thought I was going to have a trouble free ride but the regulator decided it was going out to lunch some where around Alencon.

There was just enough battery voltage to get me right to my pitch on Maison Blanc.

I cannot thank other Morgan owners enough for rallying round to help me out and get it sorted, especially Ted and Harry from Themes Vally MSCC in the next tent.

The nearest Harley dealer was only 1 mile from the circuit, so off we went to see if they had one in.

Apparently after looking the part number up on TM, it transpires it is only fitted to 2001-2006 Soft Tails. Their computer said there was only 1 in France and it was at another dealers across town.

They said if we could get the car to them that day they would collect the part and fit it for me.

So job done and top service from Fabien at Le Mans Harley.

Shame about the 285 euros though.

Still better than a recovery truck and thumbing a lift home.

And that's another one of the valiant boys (read ... M3W pilots from Talk Morgan)

... shot down over France (read ... France grin2 )

It seems proper aerial escort was provided

(read ... "other Morgan owners rallyed around and helped")

So the plane was able to land safely in a french field

(read ... "Dab's pitch at Maison Blanche")

The Resistance helped,

(read ... french mechanics)

And with parts provided by their american liaison

(read ... Harley)

The plane (M3W DOO) got up in the air and flew safely home.

Nicely done.

Oh and a heads up, regulars here will know what I mean. If nothing goes wrong I'm due to fly off myself next August 6th. Still need a name for her ... Brookie Shields? Kelly le Brook? the possibilities are endless LOL

And two days later, on Sunday, it was my bluebelle with a dead rectifier in Le Mans. Same problem, tomorrow I will pick up my car and hopefully I will find in the mail a new rectifier coming by Express Mail from England (I am so thankful to M. and P.P., they found the last one in England (?) at the fifth dealer. At wednesday I am booked on the ferry to Thrill on the Hill.

Achim

So folks, buy this as a sparepart and have it with you all the time

I buy a suitable controller 70 euros (http://www.fcparts.com/zodiac/books/fr/catalog/bbook39/05.pdf) last year for a person who has mtw, it works to correctly day, you must choose for Softail 2001-2006 alternator 38 amps triphaser with plug type H (OEM 74540 01).
