I may be wrong in this instance (Lord knows, it won't be the first time) but if you are filling the bevel box until you get flow from the hole with the orange knob, you may be overfilling the box (however, if that will make it quiet, I'm all for it).
It is my understanding that the box should be filled until it overflows from the Allen bolt hole located above the drain plug.
This seems to take just under a pint of fluid. Anyone else care to weigh in this?

I found the best way to get that nasty grey BB lube/grease out of the BB is to drive the M3W until the BB is up to temp. This way when the BB is hot the lube flows out much better and then refill with a good quality synthetic gear lube. I did this 3-4 times to ensure all the grey goop was gone and I ended up putting in Red Line Synthetic Heavy Shockproof 75W250 gear oil. Between that gear lube and some rubber washers added between the BB and chassis and heads of the mounting bolts, the BB whine has been greatly reduced.

It's great to hear my S&S sound system again!

I questioned the FILL vs. INSPECTION plug locations during the PDI of my machine at the dealer, and was told the same.
I question why is the FILL location so much higher than the INSPECTION location?
I can understand it as a vent location but not as a FILL location.
Why would the INSPECTION location not be used to fill the BB also, as is done on many automobile differentials?
Am I missing something here?

Oops my mistake then.........

Even from the fill hole I was only able to get about a quart in it.

I guess if it flows out the vent cap I will have confirmed it was too much.

Although, as long as there is enough room in the case and the air can vent as the oil expands due to temp, can you really have too much lube?

It wouldn't seem bad to have too much oil in a gearbox, but you run a chance of blowing the extra out the vent and creating a big mess around the rear wheel and tire.

Not that drag is a big deal on these cars, but more oil will take more effort to turn the box and rob some power from you.

Also some boxes do not have seals that are capable of being flooded with oil and will leak. Most of these gear boxes are designed to keep in splashed oil, but not when oil covers the seals all the time.

Running the correct amount is the best in all cases.

Guess I'll play it safe and pull the full level plug and let any excess oil drain out.

Will be interesting to see if it will be more noisy with less oil

earlier versions of BB had breather plugs on top to allow excess oil to drain. This of course would put the underside of M3W in a mess.

Boy there sure is a lot of confusion here, and I'll probably be adding to it but here goes. Correct me if I'm wrong. First refer to the excellent writeup and pictures presented by Q8 on 8-2-14. I believe the orange knob is the vent. On the back of the BB the upper Allen is the level plug an the lower hex is the drain plug. Q8 used the vent plug hole to fill the BB until it ran out the level (Allen) plug hole. I hope I'm right here because I'm in the process of changing the oil right now. Please anybody let me know if I'm off track here?
