Don't forget to check for faults in the indicator stalk, I have known the source of a similar problem to exist there,

Well for all you meter buffs I still and still use the meter my father made in 1939 when he was put to work on Radar, pre war he taught maths, physics, Latin and coached rugby...

It is a great bit of kit and in many instances bet than my digital meter

Eureka I have found it.

After pulling the car to pieces I have found the short and it was where I first looked for it!!

The wires leading to the indicator repeater have a long lead and are wrapped around the wing stay in coils.

One of the coils had in the past been trapped between the two wing stays.

Only by peeling back the harness and cleaning off the underseal, could you see the live and earth crushed together.

As I checked through the harness I found the following:

1. The rear harness multiplug is under the carpet on the driver's side bulkhead. On my +4 the carpet was glued over and it had to be peeled back. By disconnecting, I was able to isolate all the rear electrics. The carpet will now be velcroed at the top

2. The cables to the front passenger's side lights etc. run along the top cross head tube behind the radiator and fan. Some of the harness covering had rubbed off in this area and has now been 'beefed' up with insulating tape and wider cable ties.

3. The indicators and sidelights have long leads which are coiled up at the front under the wings or at the rear under the rear panel. Ensure that they are well secured with wide cable ties. Some of Morgan's are a bit thin and can cut the outer harness.

4. Thanks to the Talk Morgan website I was able to download a copy of my +4 wiring diagram. This gave me the layout and a rough idea as to where to look for the multiplugs. The upholsterers come after the electricians in the factory and have no problem with burying the electrics under carpet and leather!

Thanks for all your suggestions and the history lesson in meters.

Cheers guys.

I did have a stiff brandy last night.

Putting it back together today. Sunny this afternoon.

I thought it was going to be a garage job but heaven knows what the bill would have been.

Took it for a run and worked out a left turn route just for the hell of it.
Last time I had to work out a right turn route as no one took any notice of my hand signals.
Yes Dave, big glow along with big smile.
