Camskill claim to have the cheapest prices on 888s.
Might be worth calling them for a quote.

Just looked in the handbook, never really read it before, and the Series III tyres are as follows:

Front - 225/40 ZR18
Rear - 245/40 ZR18

Now my question is this, having looked up the rating on a tyre site I got this information:

Speed Category "ZR" For vehicles with a speed capability over 240 Km/h (e.g. 205.40 ZR 17)

Speed Symbol "W" For vehicles having speed capability not exceeding 270 Km/h (e.g. 225.60 R 15 96W)

As the 888's seem only available with the 'W' rating, is this higher or lower than a 'ZR' rating? I realise that with a top speed just over 160 mph the issue could be academic, but I believe the upper rating may affect the lower speed performance too.

Maybe Lee you can confirm the rating of the 888's that you fitted on your Aero. Thanks. grin2

I think ZR is a generic term for high speed rated tyres, however there is still another pure speed rating after it, see:

http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html

The Avon ZZR which I think may be OE on Aero's now is a Y rated tyre as are the Pirelli's on my S1. The 888's in 225/40/18 size are only W rated which is lower than the std tyres.

This may be an issue for homologating the import to Portugal (Cereals point earlier)... I need to check...

This is the point that I was trying to make Phil. smile

I also Googled and came up with this site on ratings. This was the site that I was quoting from and you can see they specifically quote the ZR rating below the main table.

My car is fitted with Avon's, but I need to go downstairs and see what exactly they are rated at...

These are the Avon's on the front and it is the same tyres on the back, but 245's. As you can see, it is 'Y' rated, like your Pirelli's.

I am not very impressed with the performance of these tyres. frown

Ok the decision as been made... I've gone with Toyo Proxes T1-R for a number of reasons:-

1. I've had them before on a road car and liked them.
2. The homologation issue with W versus Y rated for Portugal
3. The fact I'm going to do about 5000miles through various bits of France, Spain and Portugal before I get near a track day again.
4. I know lots of sprinter/hillclimbers who swear by them

I will in all likely get a spare set of wheels (perhaps some of the curbed lots at the factory) and fit them with 888's for track days in Portugal anyway so in the longer term (once the car has a P registration) it will be 888's.

Thanks for all the advice chaps... good thread. wine

You may be the last to get some- they are apparently stopping the production.
