Thank you for accepting my registration and allowing me to join the online Morgan community. Over the years I have joined a few other car forums and on line communities, all dependent on then car I own at the time, and all without any exceptions have been a blessing of knowledge and info but above all friendly
from the little lurking I have done this community seems to fit with that very well, and it has to be said has the biggest selection of emoticons ever assembled in one place!
My formative car history has been Westfield based, owned 6 at the last count in various specifications of anger/speed/comfort. While not over endowed with engineering skills( some say the opposite), I can at least build an engine and even a car if kept fed and watered.
From Westfields I moved into BMW M cars, that S54 straight 6 is a mighty engine and the current steed is Z4M roadster which I argue is the best use of that engine BMW ever came up with. Along the way there were other kit cars and even a Ferrari Mondial T coupe that did classic Le Mans 2 years ago, including 8 "parade" laps, 2 of which will count as some of the more terrifying track time I have clocked up.
However my passion has always been in driving, and while that was more track based it has latterly moved more to epic road trips. I am still active in the Westfield club ( used to be a moderator and club official), and we still all meet up once of more a month for a run out. Most of us no longer have a Westfield, but the friendships transcend such points, and we all enjoy a run out. This Sunday we are doing some 150 miles just for breakfast in Norfolk
because we can and the sun is out.
So why join here.....and to be honest this was a forum I never thought I would join, but I might be in the market for an Aero 8. I was all about to sign on the line and purchase a Ferrari 360 spider which I suspect most of you would regard as at the opposite end of the spectrum from a Morgan, having always wanted one and fallen for that V8 howl. However red wine, Pistonheads/YouTube and an iPad can be a dangerous combination and while idly flicking the classified asking "what else" just to erasure myself before doing the deal I saw Morgan and the Aero8 link. I had completely forgotten about this car (sorry), but I am glad that I did click the link. 30 mins of internetting later I am seduced by the Art Deco/hot rod aping looks and noise and find myself joining here.
I am torn between a Series 1 and the "federalised" or often called series 2 cars, and it has to be said worried that the drive will be very GT and not at all sporting......this is a personal judgement not a definitive one as we will all have our own views on this. So today I am off to drive a Series 1 car and ask all the silly newbie questions on running costs and if the Series 1 wheels are easy to replace etc.... I will post up my feelings afterwards, with I am sure some equally classic newbie questions.
