I have just acquired my first Morgan. I'm a bit taller than average and like to have the headrests fairly high, but they keep sliding down inside the seatback (fitted with a single oval hole). Is there a recommended way of fixing them in place without risking whiplash when the driver behind gets too close?

If you bought your new +4 from a dealer, I would take it to them to fix the issue as you don't want to risk damaging the seat.
(On my car the issue is the other way round; the headrests are stiff to move)

All I can think of is a cable tie on the head rest shaft close to the bottom, push them down to the exact position you want/comfort etc. and then remove them and you have the position at the bottom of the cable tie where you want to stop the head rest shaft entering the socket. You then need to fashion a 'stop' that's small enough to pass through the trim ring and yet big enough to stop the head rest shaft going down further. My mind is thinking a flash of arc weld to make a 'post' in the swaged part of the head rest shaft (the trim ring is oval the head rest shaft has a pressed swage, I would look to see if I can put a large weld spot in the recess of this swage?) Of course check it out first. If you cant get a cable tie in as a marker you could use engineers blue on the head rest shaft or Tippex to see what depth its been scraped off to perhaps?

Mine are also diffcult to move.
Seems you are unlucky

One of my headrests was loose after delivery it was due the bottom roller being dislodged. Fixed by dealer.

A squeeze in a vice (Sides of the shaft) would probably fix it.

Thanks for tips everyone. Also will consider putting a solid steel bar inside the existing head rest post in order to extend it - the lower end can rest on the stop inside the seat back and the upper end takes the minimal weight of the headrest.

Mine are ok as long as I don't take them out... Hell to push back in.

Has anyone tried the increase the "bend" of the tube to bring the padded rest forward. I know this can be done on MG rests but the Morgan variety seem to resist any amount of force that I feel safe in applying. As they are they are useless as an anti whiplash constraint. Just cosmetic on my 2011 4/4.
