Took Henrietta to Cranmore yesterday, to act as Driver Inspector for the first passenger run of our DMU on the East Somerset Railway. No traffic on the back way to Cranmore, so took the opportunity to test the recent remap.
Despite poor weather during day, DMU and driver performed well and I managed to drive home in dry, put H away in garage and got indoors just as heavens opened.
Finally, this past Easter weekend, we've had the combination of good weather and enough time to get the Mog out of the garage and prepare it for a summer of Southern Ontario motoring. There was an unexpected late dump of snow on Sunday 12th, the grit trucks were out again overnight Sunday into last Monday, and it required a little rain in midweek to wash the roads clean. And then I was away on business for a few days
Having suffered its longest ever winter layup, the old girl coughed into life with remarkable ease. I had done nothing to the battery besides the occasional quick go with a charger over the winter, I'd squirted a bit of stabilizer in the fuel tank before the last run out in November, and put a bit of extra air in the tyres to avoid flat spotting. She turned over first time, spluttered once, caught, and ran smoothly. Idling while I reset the tyre pressures, we then went out for a quick spin round the block to listen for anything worrying... nothing to cause concern. The usual greasing and spanner check, then a short blat through the neighbourhood before lunch to make sure the gears and brakes are doing what they should.
An oil-change and coolant-check later, and it was off for a longer shakedown run in the countryside. Glorious sunshine, if a little chilly still at speed (air temps about 8C). But the key thing is that, at last, it's Morgan o'clock in Canada!
