I am the lucky owner of a M3W that has been back 2 months to the factory for new bevelbox & compensator but sadly after 2000 miles it seems i'm in for some waiting time again.
Failed timing of engine without timing belt issue.. Engine cannot start anymore and dealer has inspected everything but it is down to some broken mechanical part that takes care of timing independent of belt. Either replacement engine or repair? Anyone can shed a light on this?

That really is bad luck, let's hope it's a straight forward fix.

In the states I believe that your situation would fall under the lemon law. Sorry to hear of your misfortune, I hope you are on the road again soon.

Very sorry to hear this, Nadvys. It's easy to understand your frustration.

How old is your car, how many miles have you covered & what was the symptom in the first instance?

Morgan will clearly cover your car if it's within warranty, and may be sympathetic in different circumstances. There have been some cases around the globe with X-Wedge engine timing belt issues, although you may simply have a rogue belt if it's given up the ghost.

Belt failure is usually due to misalignment or age, allied to an excess of either heat or cold extremes. Of course, if it's slipped a tooth or so around the wheels it's likely to be the result of misalignment or breakage of the tensioning wheel, but that diagnosis can only be done individually.

Whether it's an engine change or repair will be down to age/mileage etc but I'd guess that the workshop times for both would probably fall towards replacement.

The X Wedge is a "free" engine - inthat if a belt fails it does not wreck the engine.

Soooo hopefully its a simple fix for your engine - I wish you a speedy fix:))

Thanks guys, it is still under warranty and it is not a belt fail. Something deeper in the engine but cannot yet understand what it is.

Sorry to hear about your problem nadvys. If the timing belt and tensioners are all OK and the valves open and close at the correct time, everything turns freely, the dowel holes for the camshafts all align, then it could just be a failed sensor. It has a few, crank position/bank angle maybe? The ECU stores fault codes, S&S Pro Tune 2 can read sensor outputs. I would have expected a dealer to be able to tell you exactly what the fault is. Interesting to know the solution, if there is a trend for failures it may be useful information in the future.

3 weeks later and still no news from factory for resolution. Should i move to UK to shout my frustration loud and clear?
