The place to mount an amp on the S3 is passenger footwell, there is a false plate there set at an angle held by hex bolts. My amp is in under there, keeping boot free for other junk!
May be the same on an S1.

Hi Harry,

If its any help I run a set up with a Sony head unit with a Hi-Band remote column mounted, boot mounted 10 disc changer, 2 pairs of 4” 3 ways up front (I kept one pair of the original VDO’s mounted in the foot well as these seem to offer reasonable mid range, but upgraded the door mounted to Pioneer, better top end), a pair of Pioneer 6x9” 3 way mounted behind the seats, a Pioneer amp to run the 6x9” & to top it off a Pioneer active sub unit. The changer, Amp & Sub are mounted in the boot.

All works well, & the sound is as good as you could get with out spending a fortune, like others have said though, the best sound does come from the rear mounted stainless speakers!! thumbs

Thanks Matt - did you have to make any modifcations to fit the 6x9s?

In the spirit of all cars being different, mine has no front speakers. At all, footwell or door.

Really! Wouldn’t be a big job to install a set to the front, & would help balance the sound.

I set out to mount them in a box (as mr_tony’s), but before I did this I tried them just mounted on a piece of MDF which fits nicely at an angle in the rear space, was happy with the sound so I carpeted it at there it stayed, nice & easy to remove should a little more storage space be needed! I’ll post some pic’s if interested.

Matt
