Hi,
My wife & I set off to London recently and after approx 20 miles the car showed signs of fuel starvation. After another 15 miles it got much worse.
The AA spent 2 hours roadside trying everything he new . The fault codes were PO171 and PO174 (system too lean banks 1&2 )
He suspected the fuel pump.
The Relay service got us and the car home.
I know a good mechanic. Does anyone know exactly how to remove the fuel pump ? Does the tank need removing and if so how? The fuel pump is an electric in tank pump probably made by Ford.
Does anyone know what Ford pump it is.
Sorry to ask these questions.
If all else fails I will get it trailered to a Morgan specialist.

I have removed the spare wheel and bent back the steel plate.
The in-tank fuel pump is in full view.
There are 2 timber horizontal battens spaced apart and 1 central timber batten . It does appear very tight to remove the fuel pump without lowering the tank somehow.Does it come out without doing this?
My car is booked in this wednesday.He is a very good mechanic but has never worked on a morgan before.Any information I can give him to help him would be useful.

New fuel pump just fitted and the car now running well.The live feed to the pump had overheated and showed signs of burn out.
Total garage bill £336 including pump.They even delivered it back to my home free.
They explained how they removed the pump.
The fuel tank has angle iron welded at both sides.Two bolts each side pass through the angle irons and through the timber boards that straddle the steel chassis flanges.By moving the tank slightly and wedging at a slight angle the pump was removed from the top.
Only problem - the garage say that they have spotted some woodworm?

I forgot to mention that the pump was a 1.8 Mondeo 2000-2001 pump and are redily available.

At a guess, something in your garage is infested with woodworm.

I did think that Morgan were pre-treating the entire wood frame with Cuprinol 5 star, so perhaps, they missed a bit. Cuprinol 5 star is good stuff, I've used it for years and the entire three wheeler frame got two generous coats before I painted it.

Find out where they saw the holes and go a bit bonkers with the stuff. Then have a good look around the garage.

Woodworm: I took that to mean the garage was having a joke with Ray?

My first Morgan had previously failed a MOT for woodworm! (I've kept a copy of the fail somewhere)

I think Martin was correct. They were having a joke. Its just the way he kept such a straight face.
