Amen, and for Roland Ratzenberger the day before.......terrible weekend that I still remember, and Murray Walkers live commentary as the tragedy unfolded on TV.
I remember it all too well, we were at Silverstone. The paddock went quite quiet as the news started to circulate, followed by hushed discussion and reflective faces RIP Ayrton & Roland.
I remember the afternoon vividly, shocking and painful. Also remember seeing the coverage of poor Roland Ratzenberger the day before. Two deaths in one weekend at a time when we thought F1 had solved the safety issues. I lost my appetite for F1 that weekend and have never recovered it. Sometimes dying early can lead to exaggeration of the deceased talent, but in Senna's case I think he was as good as any driver has been or will be.
Terrible loss to both families, thoughts with them always.

Same here: the weather was glorious and we were having a family BBQ. The guys where having a few beers watching the race.
The Guardian has a very good article on Roland Ratzenberger here
While on the subject of F1 we should spare a thought for Michael Schumacher who has survived goodness knows how many F1 incidents to fall victim of a relatively mundane skiing accident. The latest news that I can find seems to indicate that he is still in a coma.
