Hi,
Was planning to head down to the Goodwood Breakfast club this morning.
So car started ok in the garage, but was running slightly rough at first, though it might of been a loose lead or something..
then it started coughing a bit..
then it cut out and died and won't start... First thought was that it ran out of fuel so filled it up with 5 litres from a jerry can, but still didnt work..
All the above within half a mile.
Called the RAC he gave it a check over, but could not work it out, said it might be fuel related.
The car turns over and starts initialy but then cuts out.
Any idea what it could be.. The interia switch is ok and the fuel pump is priming on ignition.
Any ideas....
Will

Have you tried re-setting the ECU by turning off the red key, waiting a couple of seconds then turning on again. Sounds far too easy, but when my T16 does not start first time it will run rough until i do this. No expert but I presume the ECU is causing over or under fuelling. worth a try?

Have you (carefully) undone the fuel pipe banjo at the filter output to see if fuel is being delivered? If no fuel pressure try the filter input. This should eliminate blocked filter or duff pump. Pump seems to be universal 1976 -1997 from morgan dealers, not sure what the non morgan suppled alternative would be, no doubt there is one, anyone know?

Not my area of expertise but a friend had +4 with the Rover engine around this year and this was a persistent problem from new. Start up, drive out of garage, stop engine, go indoors come out car is dead. Occasionally opening and closing the battery isolator cured it but finally he spoke to a guy used to electronic systems. The only bit I can remember was that it concerned the fuel pressure and an electronic system that inhibited the ignition. The engine would turn over but not always start, after several minutes, that seemed like an age it would eventually fire up. Of course this assumes that the fuel system is all in A1 condition re filters, pump, etc. If everything is OK and the problem persists I would suggest calling Chris Crane of RPI Engines at 01603 891209 as he solved my pal's dilemma. Often my pal was last to get away from a stop through this trouble. A bit vague but might help.............

If no progress get some spray fuel starter, in the air intake and see if it runs up, if it does then fuel related, chase from there.

Went down to the garage this morning.. Cleaned a few connections, but a booster pack on and it fired up..
