Hi there Just been playing with the idea of putting a side pipe on my 1.8 duratec 4/4. Anyone any thoughts or ideas if it would be any good? Also looking at changing the exhaust manifold and cat. I have ones from a +4 duratec and wondering if they would work. The manifold especially looks like it was thought about a bit more. Many thanks Gaz
I am a fan of the side exit exhaust and it fairly easy to do on the classic chassis cars because you don't have to modify the wings. So my advice is go for it.
Thanks guys I had the box off a few times playing so it is pretty easy to do. Does it make the smaller engines sound better or is it just loud. Chris : on the other had it might balance things out as SWMBO sits on the other side
I have side pipes which came fitted on my '97 3.9 plus 8. Although I prefer the look of two pipes out of the back, I do think there is one advantage of side pipes: less risk of grounding on humps and bumps and steep gradients. In addition to which the sound is more immediate (ok, louder). On the other hand I get asphyxiated when I start up inside the garage.

Side exit fitted to a 4/4 Sport on standard down pipes and Cat no ECU changes checked on the dyno to insure safe running 134bhp... from stock checked on dyno 114bhp.
From a Racing re-packable Morgan V8 with Intake pipe to suit my down pipe. Sounds good too!
You know it makes sense!
