Hello everyone.

We are travelling up from the West Country to the 100 Morgan meeting to Help the Heroes and then on to the lakes! I was going to put a big case on the rack but it obscures the brake light and someone said it is unwise to put to much weight behind the rear wheels?

Any advice would be much appreciated - this is my very first question so if I have broken any rules etc I'm sorry!

Welcome to the forum. No rules broken AFAIK. I know a David Shakesheff from work whose nickname is Shaky. Some knowledgeable chap will tell you the best way to handle luggage.

Hi Shakey and welcome to the forum! I wouldn't worry too much about the weight of a suitcase on the rack....unless you a using a cabin trunk! Most decent sized cases will obscure the high level brake light. That doesn't bother me too much but I have moved from a large case to using a couple of waterproof soft Ortleib bags instead.
Some people have made brake lights which plug into the loom and then strap to the top of the luggage if it is an issue.

Hi Shakey and welcome to TM
cheers

Regarding luggage; we carry a decent sized Samsonite suitcase, with a waterproof cover. Also because the lovely Lady Budster does not know the meaning of "packing light" it usually weighs in at around 25kg. Other than putting an extra couple of psi in the rear tyres, we make no other adjustments.
Also Stanley has no high level brake light, so that has never been a concern.
Attached file shows the set up (Stanley is the dark red 4/4)

We have friends that use two trolleys, perhaps a fraction larger than aircraft cabin luggage, that they strap to the rack side by side. That plus two soft overnight bags behind the seats seems to work quite well.

Peter

Mrs S now has an even longer list.

Thanks very much.

I'm guessing if you have a high brake light fitted it isn't illegal to obscure it.
