Hi,

This season the cooling fan has not yet started.
The temperature is 100C, still no cooling fan.

As I flushed the system this Winter, it runs a lot cooler, but
the absence of the cooling fan worries me.

Any idea where I should start to look?

Check the relay. This is usually the cause.
The relay is a Bosch 033 2014 112

Also check the connector at the fan end for oxidation in the connector pins (try reseating a few times)

It's fixed now, thank you both for all good advices.
I sourced a new relay today and installed after testing if the fan could rotate freely.

Sometimes the bearings seize, my nearest expert said.

I will buy two extra relays and carry on board as spares.

Gert
The spare relay is a good idea as there is the same specification relay operating the fuel pump.

Hi Geir
What prompted you to flush the system? Was it overheating? And what did you use?
My 2005 back top zetec runs at about 105-110C on the gauge, and the fan runs almost all the time when driving in warm weather. I might try flushing mine.

Hi Nigel, my black top 2003 does the same even after flushing the system through. The tubular sports manifold chucks out a lot of heat and the under bonnet temp could be lower. I had similar issue with a TR6 but wrapping the exhaust lowered it significantly so I might try that. I reckon the rad area is just too small and made worse with badge bar and a hot oil cooler.

Yes, Steve, I have a Librands s/s manifold and sports system and it does get hot. I've been strongly advised against wrapping it though (can cause failures), so may eventually get it Zircotec coated. I may also try wrapping the water hoses where they pass close to the manifold. But first I think I should probably try flushing it thoroughly. I've asked for advice on this in another thread - perhaps you can give me some pointers?

Hi, yes I see you have a reply, I didn't use any flush agent, just water, plus I didn't use the bottom hose but used the rad drain plug as it's a lot easier to get to. The other thing I did was to remove the expansion tank and clean that with some sand and water, gave it a good shake around to clean the muck out of the chambers.

How is your badge bar mounted?
If to the grille mounting bolts, turn the bar upside down, this lowers the badges by 2 - 3 inches... You'll have to fit the badges before remounting the bar though... smile
