Laurens, I was at Compton Abbas today in my 4/4 and both chassis were cracked in roughly the same place. For a British right hand drive car this was on the left side upper main tube, just to the rear of the suspension wishbone mounting. I hope this will give an idea of where to look. (I didn't take any photos of the fault myself- it seemed a bit too much like 'rubbing salt into the wound' {I hope you can understand this English saying}, but I know someone did get some pics, perhaps they'll get posted later). Gerry.
I should also say that mine is going back to the factory this week and that they have taken my concerns very seriously. Definitely seems to only affect 2012 cars. However two cars at one event, would have been three if I could have taken mine does show that this is not an isolated issue. I think Morgan should issue a bulletin regards inspection of this part of the chassis. Luckily it is very easy to see the crack, when you know where to look.
Thanks for taking the time to show the area of concern. When I get home in a few weeks that'll be something else to check for...another hitch home with the mog in the shop. So glad I got limited mileage on my insurance.
Funnily enough the chassis were both cracked in the same place and on the same side. If you look on the left hand side, on the upper chassis rail, in the area of the rear top wishbone mounting brackets.
It looks as though the 2013 cars have a little gusset welded in, whilst the lastest ones have a large triangulated tubular reinforcement. It does not look as if this can be welded in once the body is on though. So, yes, it could be the 2012 cars that are affected, but it would behove all of us to keep an eye on that area, as I dread to think what would happen if the chassis collapsed completely whilst at speed.........
