Sorry to hear your news but sounds like you finally got home OK, given your localization I would give William's a call (I heard good things).

Looks like a nice car. With the clutch, see if you can replace the parts with genuine replacements from somewhere like Melvyn Rutter. Or you could install a hydraulic conversion but that's going to cost far more.

It sounds like your clutch is actually rod operated. A friend's '73 was, where my '76 was cable. There was a period of a couple of years where Morgan 4/4 used a rod linkage, rather than cable. I know a man who may still have that rod linkage, but he's a bit difficult to get hold of. That '73 car now sports a Zetec engine, rather than the old X-flow and I suspect the clutch is now cable operated.

Given that you are in Devon how about giving Berrybrook in Exminster a call?

Yes, may give Berrybrook a call, I also know a retured mechanic who looks after my old mini who might be useful. Does anyone know if the original linkage would still be available or perhaps the obvious bodge carried out on my car would suggest maybe it's not. The AA man suggested it would be better to get it converted to cable anyway despite the need to install some sort of cantilever system. I suspect that the AA 'temporary' fix might be considerably more robust than what I started yesterday with. Any thoughts on converting to cable operation?

I'm sure it probably is - I would call Phil at Brands Hatch Morgan or Graham at Melyvn Rutter's. They'll know and will be able to provide.

Yup, that looks like it. I contacted my pal and he kept the rod operated clutch when fitting the Zetec to a '73 4/4 4 seater. Hopefully he will come up with a photo or two that I can post to you.

The rod kit described should be suitable providing the other adjoining clutch components are standard for the car. I would be inclined to take pictures and measurements then give them a ring.
