I've been a bit quiet lately in the posting department, and will continue to be for a while( long story....won't bore you ) so by way of letting TMers know I'm still in the land of the living and continuing to enjoy TM, thought I might change my avatar.

This was precipitated by a decision ( faced by many of us males who happen to be swimming in the particular genetic pool where being follicularly challanged rears its head:

Do I go with the dreaded comb-over or is it the shaved head look for me?

Well, before I had a chance to think any more about it, I shaved, its all gone and, I have to say I like it. Strangely liberating to not worry how your hair looks when you go out!

Now, I thought that this gave me a certain look of suaveness, sophistication, slight intrigue even. Why wouldn't you circulate a self portrait amongst a few people to get a bit of feedback?

Don't get me wrong, I like honesty in a person but...........

"Bad ass uncle Neil".......mmm, to see ourselves as others see us!

So, what is the feeling amongst TMers?.....comb over or shaved head?

just think the money you will save on shampoo

I'm "lucky": different gene pool. At 62 I'm just starting to thin a bit on top!

So still paying for a haircut every 6 to 8 weeks, buying shampoo and so on. But I no longer comb or brush it, it is as it dries out of the shower. The avatar photo makes this clear.

As someone who is now thin on top, it's a short all over cut for me. My dad had a comb over all held in place by some fatty/oily hair product that left a disgusting film on pillows and collars.

My Dad still has a full head of hair so I'm hopeful that I will be OK. My Dad taught at the same secondary school I went to and most thought he wore a wig as he still had a lot of hair (I may have fueled this rumour occasionally!).

Like 1955er I would shave mine should I face a balding issue.

I have still a head of hair at 61. It is grey.
Over the recent years I have had it cut shorter . Now at 3 and a half, whatever that means.
In the summer I will get a 3 (a bit shorter than a 3 and a half) and keep it at that for a while.
Apart form a comb over to take the Top Gear challenge, my preference would be to shave it off.

I can remember when my hair was half way down my back and I also had a beard, my late father (ex Royal Marine might help explain) said one day 'don't come to the front of the house, use the back, you will frighten the neighbours looking like that'.....I got stick every day for the length of my hair. I was just coming out of my apprenticeship working on cars and trucks so always covered in grease, riding a 650 BSA, you get the picture. Strangely the moment I left home I cut off the long hair, the moment it started to thin I bought some of those electric clippers and it's cut shorter and shorter ever since. I can't stand it being long now and long these days is about 1/2" ;-). I just can't see the point of having hair that has to be placed in position and dread to think how it looks driving top down....images of Bobby Charlton flood back, greatest footballer ever but daft hair ;-). Mind you I do notice the sunburn on my head more every year!

Short hair is the way to go if, as I am, you are a bit thin on top. My brother thanks the same as I do too.

Decided to cut it all almost one year ago, never regretted it. As I left the temporal bits very short, it still needs haircutting once in the 4 weeks. Tiny hairs still reappear! And I'm still using shampoo.
It's very practical too, yesterday it was so hot, I put my head under the tap with cold water. Just as easy as that. No combing. And there are lots of younger man who do have hair, but still cut it off! It's a trend, I believe Kojak once started it.......!

I was blessed? With MPB from a relatively early age (I blame RAF berrets) so my open top motoring has been a wind in the scalp experience.

There is a big advantage you may not have thought of, slip slap slop, applying sunscreen is a breeze with cropped hair.
