Having had the Supersports for a month now I'm already remembering how awful Avon tyres are. Has anyone found a good alternative?

I'm really looking for something which grips and builds confidence during legal, yet enthusiast, driving. I think R888s might be overkill but they'd probably grip better during wet conditions despite being semi-slicks.

With my old Aero 8, I had the car completely sideways halfway around the 'Ring as the tyres let go. On another occasion (Bedford trackday) the car just slid sideways off the track as the tyres (with pressures corrected ahead of time) gave up the ghost. In the rain they were quite frankly dangerous.

Any tyre that is old and a bit hard is going to be far worse than a fresh set of boots.

The Avons on my Aeros aren't spectacular, but they were never dangerous.

Horses for courses - maximum grip is great, but if you do get it wrong then something progressive is far more forgiving...

Also on previous post tyres at around 5-6 years old generally harden and loose grip, especially in the wet, it is made worse if they are not used often and just sit around.

Toyo Proxes T1Rs are good, Tim Ayers races with then on his +8, and he has raced successfully for years, I will be fitting some to mine in year or so unless something better comes along. If you want extreme grip and good wet grip look at Avon race tyres for hill climbs, they won't last long but will grip, however when they let go it will be sudden.

Thanks all. smile Think the tyres are relatively new but will check tyre walls for year etc. I've used Toyos on other cars to great effect but will explore all options too.

Would agree with A048 Yokos; Toyo T1R for enthusiastic road use.

R888 have a somewhat narrow operating window for public road driving unless the hairs on your lovespuds are on fire and you don't mind the points.

I do however still find myself looking at them everytime it comes to replace the rears on a Mog. Mouse finger is getting itchy....may need to hit button....help.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

I know what you mean - had the R888s on the Exige and they were phenomenal once warm. Usable during winter with a gentle right foot.

I've currently got Pirelli Corsa on the Lambo - very good tyres so will explore these for the Mog too.
