I've had the pleasure of some great chats on the phone with David and met him recently at Donnington. As Simon says...he knows a thing or two about a thing or two!

Thank you all for the information. I'm going to call M. Borghi tomorrow and ask for a copy of the registration document and CoC so that I can test them with the local vehicle registration office. They are a pretty stroppy bunch. Last year I had to have a big row with them because they wouldn't believe that a UK registration document for a VAT free export was a real UK registration document. This time I'll try a dry run with them for the SS to minimise the stress.

Have any of you advice on how I handle the difference between a standard +4 and the SS insurance wise? I don't want to spook them but I also don't want to pretend she is standard.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi, I'm in the Var too., near Lorgues. Good point. I would expect that the TVA has been paid in Italy. Otherwise this just isn't feasible. I'll check.

Under European law tax is payable in the country of registration if it is a new means of transport. Even if tax has been paid in another country. In theory you should be able to get the tax refunded if it has been paid. If it has never been registered this is not a problem as the tax either has not yet been paid or the seller can claim a credit. If it is a near new second hand vehicle it is still considered new and I can not imagine the difficulties one would have trying to get a refund out of the Italian government.

From http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPorta...000165#P35_3222

2.2 When is a means of transport not new?
A ship or aircraft or a motorised land vehicle is not new when all the following conditions are met:

when more than 6 months have elapsed since the date of its first entry into service (see paragraph 2.3), and
it has, since its first entry into service, travelled under its own power for more than 6000 kilometres.

So one would need to make sure both conditions are met. In the case of the Plus 4 SS in Milan it would need another 2,000 km on the clock. wink

Another supporter of the Suplex front end here.

About the only negative comment I've heard is from someone who races a +8 and he said that he felt the steering turnin was "dulled" or "slower", but for road use it was excellent.

I'm not sure what he was getting at.

As to the movement of used cars from one country to another within the EU it varies...as long as you have the manufacturers Certificate of Conformity.

Whe we went to Germany the process, with a 3 year old Alfa 33, was painless. My friend moved to Belgium with his BMW RT1100 and in the end took it back to the UK to sell so he could buy used in Belgium. The process was complex and he felt that they just didn't want to do it.
