My Morgan dealer suggested also first to change the coolant cap. Then we will see... During my next drive I carry bottles of water with me, just in case...

Has anybody an idea?

If the system is unpressurized due to a failing cap the temperature will never exceed 100 deg Celsius. The differenece at high altitude is small and the gauge is probably not accurate enough to show it.
Another thing is at what temperature the fan is engaged. On my 4/4 it was quite a bit over 100 deg if I remember correctly - a problem if the pressure doesn't hold...

If the cap has a failure, your right. But if the water really was higher than 100 degrees Celsius (this was my first thought, because it boiled) then the temperature display shows the wrong state. So at the moment I'm really not sure which element (temp. display, cap, temp sensor etc.) I can trust...

I see your problem...
I'd start with the cap and check if it's possible to raise the temp to above 100 deg without problems (minding the danger of boiling water coming out oldgit ).

Probably the system was pressurised then the cap failed and the pressure release would cause it to flash off
