Thanks for the link Martin. very useful. I was reassured to see that although I had to chop mine in for a french license back in 1988, that all appears correct and in order for me on the DVLC site.

There is something a bit strange here. The M3W has car controls. It seems a bit stupid that someone who has a bike licence and has never driven a car could legally drive one. Needless to say it is also pretty stupid that someone who does not have a bike licence needs to get one in order to drive and M3W. In Australia they have avoided this issue by deciding it is a car. Vehicle categories
EU law divides motor vehicles and trailers into 4 broad categories.
Category L
Mopeds and motorbikes, as well as all-terrain vehicles (quads) and other small vehicles with 3 or 4 wheels.
Within category L, motorbikes are further subdivided into 2 groups (with and without sidecars). There is also a subdivision for mopeds with 3 wheels, which have smaller engines and lower top speeds than motor tricycles.
Category M
Vehicles with at least 4 wheels designed to carry passengers - essentially, cars. What is needed is a sub-class of Category M for 3 wheelers with car-like controls.

You will need both your driver number and your national insurance number. (Tip for NI number - look at a payslip or a tax return).
Hmmm, or another tip for NI number - it's your NI number! Okay, perhaps I'm a bit of a sad git for knowing my driver number (although actually when you know how it's constructed it's not difficult) ... but am I really unusual in remembering my own National Insurance number? Anyway, thanks for the link. I confirm that I also do not have any class A entitlement. Out of interest, how many people have managed to avoid the photo licence and still have an old red (or even green) paper only one? ~iw

I've still got a green one - avoided the credit card one thus far.
I can recall with accuracy all my previously owned vehicles registration numbers over a 46year period.
I don't feel so sad now Ian.

Oh yes I forgot to mention I can't remember anything else - I once forgot to pick my girlfriend (wife of 41 years now) up from Kings Lynn College and didn't realise until I got to Scunthorpe.
This didn't happen again....

Memory is a funny thing, isn't it? There are days when I don't remember my own name, let alone anyone else's, but without making any effort at all I remember my Australian driving licence number

My name since the age of 11 has been St Michael. The label cannot be wrong? Mind you given my history I am not certain how I gained the status of a saint. I am also church of scotland and so am not certain if they do "them". Conflicted as ever. 
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

I'm even sadder then. I could remember both, and the postcode of where I was living & haven't used any of them since I moved to France 26 years ago in 1988.
