Mine's about the same vintage - chassis # 948 and no grease nipple on the compensator.

My dealer was going to carry out the retrofit mod but apparently they have to refer back to the factory with some parts serial numbers to check whether it can be done or not. So it appears that some are sealed for life and others can be retrofitted with the nipple.

At the moment the compensator is fine so I'm leaving it alone anyway

I filled mine through the breather and have had no problems. It seemed to be much more quiet with the extra oil..

my first bevel box was quiet but oil was seeping out through the breather. It was replaced and is now much noisier but does not loose oil.. You cannot have the best of both worlds :-)

I have not changed my BB oil yet since I could not get suitable locally & not around to take delivery. Someone posted saying it can be done from below with a pump or syringe. Drain from point 3 & fill through 2 till oil comes out.

Perhaps the old sawdust trick might quieten them down a bit!

The way mine sounds I might try the old "bananas in the gear box" trick. My new dealer flushed it three times and it isnīt much quieter.
It is slightly less noisy at careful acceleration, but only there.

The compensator, on the other hand, is MUCH more civilized after they fitted a nipple and refilled it.

is it noisier at acceleration or deceleration? i see an optimum re. noise at 3500 rpm but i feel it has also to do with everything being in the right resonance frequency.
earplugs are a must.

It is always noisy. The wail from the bevel box is now less penetrating on slight acceleration.
Interestingly enough, they actually tightened the drive belt to get it quieter, they said.

Mine was built April 2013, #674. MUCH better with what ever they put in it with the new nipple. Less rattle, less protest on revs under 3000, less klonking...
