In response to Andyman and Donaldosaurus:

1) Pete Larsen could buy the units cheaply because they were discarded when Americans built those weird trikes with one front wheel. MMC would not have been able to buy them at a reasonable price.

2) The Liberty Ace had asymmetric seating as a result of the angled driveline, so would not have been suitable for series production, especially in right-hand-drive form.

Thanks Peter

Finding a bevel box that works for more than a few thousand miles (if you are lucky) shouldn't be beyond the MMC eng dept when Honda, Yamaha, BMW, Motoguzzi to name a few manage it for 100,000s of miles

Shame about the Honda bits .. only reliable part on the m3w seems to be the Mazda gearbox

Question is would Honda want to supply them and be associated with the M3W?

Hello Z,
how many miles has your Bevel Box?
From your experience, what is it that made the worn out gear oil so black and unusable?
Seems that you had not yet any problems with the bevel box.

+1 Z

did not do my homework researching info on the M3W before getting bitten by the bug. I sorely regret it - when my car is not working - which happens way too often for this kind of money invested.

Yesterday went out, beautiful weather and not too hot, enjoying the blast BUT came back on a tow truck. Horrible noise, vibrations in the gear box, smell of burnt rubber, voltage drop. Suspect the alternator is gone. Compensator was replaced 500 miles ago at the factory. Not pointing fingers, just fed up with this saga of not being able to enjoy a new car fearing for a breakdown every time i go out for a ride. Should i stay or should i go?

I am very surprised that nobody has yet taken any legal action against MMC. It would appear that with all the problems associated with the M3W, it is not fit for purpose. The US used to be very hot on vehicles that were not up to scratch, perhaps its time that the authorities started to take an interest and made MMC responsible for their vehicles.

Yes, me too, but I can only assume that any legal claims are being 'managed' one way or the other.
