Before getting the aero I'd looked a joining one of the London based car clubs, but after looking at the collection hassels, delivery costs, insurance loadings and the need to book any decent car months in advance I gave it a miss.

Mr Tony's right you want that something special for thw ad hoc blat, or for the days when everything goes wrong and you wonder why your get up in the morning.

It would work for you Surrey guys, but will you consider a daily rental

Possible answers:

Tony's issue. Nothing we can do about the spontanious drive unless it happens to be when you have the car. St.Tropez, car is transported to St. Tropez and we all take our own Aero's and then we can all enjoy the Max on the track and perhaps have some individual drive outs as well if practical.

The other issues mentioned.

Kerbing a wheel. Person who does it picks up the tab. Would suggest a £1,000 or so excess on the insurance policy as well that the individual who might incur a claim picks up.

Mileage: This car is not a show queen. It is built to be driven and enjoyed. If you choose to invest and put your art in the vault rather than on the wall you are missing out.

I would suggest that there be no individual track day use. The only track time would be as an organised event such as St. Tropez or something we could organise as a group with appropriate additional insurance, same would apply to any other kind of hill climb, drag racing, speed testing etc.

At the end of the day, for an outlay of £10,000 you get 28 days rental a year for as long as the car lives. If it only lasted 1 year thats a cost of £357 a day! 5 years, it equates to just over £70 a day.

Okay, so let's say after 5 years we all get bored and we have a well sorted and well used Aeromax with 150,000 miles on the clock. What would it be worth? Who knows? £12,000, £24,000, £36,000. Say £24,000, we all get £2,000 back each, our cost of enjoyment has worked out at £57 a day!!!! Okay, bit of poetic licence because we have to add in servicing and insurance costs for year 2 to 5.

To summarise. A five year membership for £10,000 and for that you get 140 days of fun. Plus you just might have a portion of the £10,000 coming back to you with the option to sell your share at one 12th of the market value of the car at the 5th anniversary.

What is the price of a new engine and gearbox? £12,000 fitted? I'm guessing. So we hit 150-200,000 miles and we all chip in an extra £1,000 and run another 5 years the same. 280 days of fun for an average of £40 a day and the car still may have a value!

I have spoken with Matthew Parkin, Sales & Marketing Director, of Morgan Motor Company and his comment was as follows: -

"The situation is complex. The Aero 8 currently cannot be sent to the US because the new 4.8 hasn't undergone the federal emissions test. The bumper exemption is not relevant to the argument as if we had a compliant engine we could apply for a short extension again which would prolong supply a while. Incidently bumpers are not a safety issue, but a test cooked up by the insurance industry for those bozos who park by feel!!

We are doing the 2010 MY emission tests (which allow production from August 09) for the 4.8 so it is emission compliant for the US. The comments on mogwire about the rear impact are irrelevant as the chassis performed a treat and it's a self certified test, not carried to its final conclusion because of the engine emissions testing.

The amount of work and money we have spent on the US Market does not justify negative comment, although if you have an Aero on order we understand the frustration. The next thing for us to engineer for the US are Smart Bags (an airbag system which detects whether the passenger is "out of position"). This is done with a child standing up in front of the bag, but in order to get the dummy into this position the legs have to be removed below the knees!!!! I wonder how much harder it could be?? We don't know yet what the timing effect of this is on Aero 8."

Well done Simon, it is good to know the real situation regarding exports of the Aero 8 to the USA. It will be interesting to see if the editors of Mogwire now correct their somewht misleading 'news'.

Good point. It is a shame when such important yet flawed info is posted without being checked first . As you say, I hope they adjust, and also apologise accordingly.

Incidentally I am racking my brains about a duo tone scheme and the flavor of the week is a semi dark burnt orange body with graphite grey wings, all metallic. A lot like yours but in reverse. What do you think?
