I too have straight through pipes, 98db @ 2/3 max rpm.
Not too loud but a hard edge to the sound.
A bit like James Blunt v Axle Rose.

Weird - mine's the same 98db on standard pipes.

I wonder how the Brooklands compare to those.

The MP12 is a formidable machine and the Mog is the perfect antidote in a country full of speed cameras. Have you bought it or is it on loan?

The Brooklands is very loud and bassy which is perfect for the type of car. Mind you it is even louder when one pipe falls off.

All down to how the measurement is made, what's around it and a heap more vague stuff that always has an impact. My stock pipes measured 104db @4000rpm at Brands Hatch, 99db @4000rpm at Castle Combe and I'll be able to tell you what they do at Goodwood in a couple of weeks. Guarantee it'll be different again, as noise measurement is kinda like that - way too sensitive to be consistent in my view. Bear in mind that a 3db increase represents approximately DOUBLE the 'noise' and then you'll appreciate the pot-luck we all take when sat in line for the infamous sound test before going on track.....

Bottom line is that the stock pipes are too quiet IMHO, so a market definitely exists for more sound (and to a certain extent, performance of course) via aftermarket pipes. MMC do a true Straight-through in chrome (U310021 / U310022 - £198.90 + vat each) or what they call 'Noisy', which have the main front baffle, but none of the weld-in circles-with-holes baffles anywhere else (U310019 / U310020 - £191.25 + vat each). I personally think the Noisy would be the best compromise, but a properly designed replacement with a true motorcycle-type absorption silencer under the heat shield (as I've droned on about at length before!), would I think be the best solution.

It won't be a true reading as the exhaust noise measuring device will be picking up the noise of the engine as well. The test should take place in an open space so as not to pick up any bounced sound. The exhaust measuring device is only really accurate on cars where the engine noise is shielded by the bodywork.
