Thanks - I tried scrubbing the belt / sprocket with soapy water.
Worked for a couple of hundred miles then worse than ever !
Bit loath to oil it , but might in a desperation move so I can go out in it this weekend.

It probably suffers from too much road grime and would be better enclosed like the chains on some old motorcycles or the final drive on the Honda S600 sports car from the 60's.

Harley uses guards above and below the belt to try and keep grime away.

I also tried several sprays and lubricants as well as cleaning the belt and sprockets, yes they worked for a few miles but then the noises returned. The worn rear sprocket was the main cause of my problems, probably made worse by dirt pick up, as Gambalunga says. They don't make any noises from new, only after a few thousand miles which suggests wear rather than adjustment or needing lubrication. All is nice and quiet now and running well, touch wood.....

All the products I've tried it on the belt, one that lasts 300/400km dry weather is Marseille soap, I made 15 days in an inflated plastic bag with a little water to that'' it becomes a little soft after I apply only on the sides of the belt, I discovered this by finding the plastic bag that was lying in a corner of my garage while my mtw expected to be repaired (5 months). Is good news if morgan is making steel rear sprockets as some bikes Buel. View on ebay I think it must corespondre the good dimensions.

I didn't "touch wood" very well as the electrics have died now, probably the rectifier. No broken wires or blown fuses. No 14.9v on he display either, just 13v after a charge and falling steadily. New rectifier requested and a long trailer ride to the dealer if that doesn't fix it. The drive belt is very quiet now, like the rest of the car stuck in the garage, on a nice sunny weekend.

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread but I came across this whilst looking for something else.
On the Pre Delivey Inspection Checklist technical inspection item 31
"Rear drive belt tension ( 1/4 of a turn ) & clear of the tyre"
This may only be a quick check but will tell you if the the belt tension is of the right order.

I adjusted the belt 1/4 turn and did the aliment exactly the same, but after an hr drive the belt wasnt rubbing on the side of the pulley close to the wheel,it was on the outer side of the pulley. There was a annoying squeaking noise..so i loosened the belt back again & all is well(it only has 2500kms) on it...from what i have seen a 1/4 turn might be too tight..anyone has a picture of the belt twisted a bit so we can see whats normal?

I found on the second sprocket that loosening the tension a bit was a good thing. It worked, but... the squealing squeaking chirping annoyance was only deferred for a time. Once that noise begins the sprocket has already been damaged and it only accelerates. The belt has eaten through the hard anodizing and is into the softer aluminum underneath so game over.

I have fired off an email to my dealer to send me the old sprocket and I am going to preemptively send it to that outfit in California to have the old sprocket teeth machined off and replaced with the neoprene teeth.

Someone posted this and I finally found it again!

What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

Keep us posted Michael, I'm dying to hear how the supermax conversion goes. I've been reading up on them the last few weeks as i'd love to not have to deal with the sprocket going out again (happened on my 2013 car) not to mention the annoyance of the chirping belt.

This sounds EXTREMELY promising. Has anyone sent this link to the factory? It could be a great solution to an annoying problem.

The belt noise really spoils the car big time, and I'm really enjoying my new sprocket at the moment (100 miles since change).
