Hey guys ! I got a strange whistle from the front when I am accelerating. Sounds like a belt slipping on a pulley, like an old car. Any ideas ? So for I have only read about the belt noises emanating from the back - belt drive. Thanks for your comments.

If it is from the bevel gearbox area and sounds like a turbine under acceleration it is probably that the belt tension is too low. The handbook says 10mm deflection of the belt at the mid point but I found this made it squeak when I had the worn rear sprocket (see the belt noise thread), a little slacker was better. It is fine with the new rear sprocket. I hope that helps.

If it's coming from the front, there are no belts to slip,if it did, you wouldn't be running.

But sometimes a slight exhaust leak can sound very much like a chirping belt.

I would check the exhaust flanges for tightness.

You can also use a piece of rubber or plastic hose, say 1/2" diameter and put one end at your ear and use the other to probe around the motor for leaks. This hose trick works very well for leaks.

Mmmm think this might be the Compensator?? Your Comp is v noisy - and I would think that the chirp is part of it.

Do not think its exhausts - wrong chirp! And sounds mechanical to me.

That sounds very much like a VERY DRY compensator. I think the grease option would probably quiet it down a lot, but that really doesn't correct the fact that it will eventually wear out and still need replacing.

It is quite a conundrum for those with the grease option and still have "some" warranty left. If they keep it pumped with grease, it will last a bit longer and warranty may run out. If you don't grease it regularly, it will have to be replaced, but again with the same comp and not the Centa unit.

no grease option on this compensator (second already) so don't have a choice. I would go for an alternator issue since along with noise, voltage went down to 12V and then came the tow truck :-) we will see this week.

The Voltage drop is almost sure to be the Rectifier failing.This sits at the front of the car on the LHS - its got fins and is black!

Sadly a common issue on our cars - if u search for Rectifier on here you will finds all the info/answers u need.

No thats not it, thanks for the post, I have this noise in the back, not in the front.

with a faulty rectifier, once voltage drops to low, engine stops and it is finished. With alternator issue, the engine stops because voltage gets too low but you will be able to restart the motor a day later at least in my case.

Rectifier issue i have had too in my long list of incidents..
