The ZF is a good box - was my choice and would remain my choice on an Aero. However the ZF still trades some tactility and control that a manual box doesn't. The manual mode is better than other Auto box manual modes, but vs the new modern dual clutch boxes it is hopelessly outclassed.
The porsche PDk, or Volkswagen DSG or Ferrari version are all fabulous and have all been out for a long while. I think if an auto is going to be there for Morgan in the range for the long run, the sooner they get to a proper DSG style box the better.
Quicker shifts, better rev matching and seamless traction are all highly desirable in a motor car...

I am with Mr Tony on this one.
S2 with manual Box
Coupe with Auto.
Feeling lazy driving in London traffic - Coupe+full auto mode.
The rest of the time I use the Coupe in Manual override and vastly prefer it on open roads. It is definately lazy when left to its own devices and 6 on the motorway is too high for gap management on our crowded motorways,
Back roads in the S2 on a manual box are 100% ninja express. God I love the S2 on a summer day down our country lanes. The Coupe may provide shock and awe but the S2 is just so tactile and fun.

The dual clutch system is the best you can get these days and is probably the way to go. (Well done, Porsche, for pioneering and applying the PDK all those years ago and subsequently adopted by Ferrari, VW et al...) But for a single clutch transmission, the ZF is not half bad, eh?? (As a point of interest, it's a much better box than the one in a Ferrari 575 Superamerica: there is a much reduced lag/delay time between gear changes especially noticeable in the lower gears...)

I guess it's having grown up with manual with auto clutch paddle shift with no torque converters all the way from the 355 up to present stuff where the thud and definite change of these boxes win.
SLS box felt lazy in manual and I was hugely disappointed with the delayed change until took it back to AMG for a remap....after all it is the same box as Ferrari use but AMG are keen to protect their drive train.

It's Melbourne not Southend Clearly. If it were Southend the car would have been resprayed in white and retrimmed with white hide. ..and fluffy dice? OMG...not the fluffy dice....Arggggh!!!

No no no......Modern Ferraris not old prehistoric stuff. You needn't panic: the 575 Superamerica is a 2005 car and sports the previous generation (single clutch) paddle shift box. Compare that with the dual clutch paddle shift on the current California or FF, the difference just jumps out at you! The ZF - despite being a single clutch setup - changes a lot quicker and smarter than the 575's box...
