Don't quite understand that bolded statement tmg. Either R7494 was the last or it wasn't...if any were built subsequently as 'inbetweenies' the last number fitted with a Moss would have been the last, similarly if any had been fitted with the 4-speed Rover box then the first of those would have been the first ever (which I thought was the ex Jellyman/Chas Smith 'Flying Cowpat') It sounds like explaining the laws of cricket to an American. Please expand.

Have you misread what I've put? R7475 is the first Rover box, R7494 is the last Moss box. Those in between can be either.

Yes I did misinterpret what you put! I think, after being away from direct involvement with Morgans for a few years, I was so horrified by some of the threads in the 'Soapbox' forum that my old brain became a bit addled!

Perhaps it is easier to understand if put as follows:
Cars up until R7494 all used the Moss box, all cars from R7475 were 4 speed Rover cars. The ones in between can be either.

Surely the other way round?

Should be:all cars up to and including R7474 were Moss box, all cars from R7495 were Rover, the ones in between can be either.

Just for the record, and thanks for the responses, I'm absolutely clear now on the fact that the car I was interested in, was never a Moss Box car and therefore it doesn't hold the value I thought it might. I don't seem to be able to get away from the fact that I'm still drawn to Plus 8s, as I'm now chasing after a 3.9 car ;-)

You will not regret it.

There is definitely something about a Plus 8. I have had three of them. Certainly the 1971 Moss Box car was quickest but it was a bit challenging given its age and not all that comfortable with super sports buckets and side pipes. The other two are mid 80s cars with 5 speed boxes, very comfortable and easy to drive long distances. I guess as I get older my need for speed has lessened and I find I appreciate the creature comforts more . . .
