I have read with interest about fancy air induction systems to scavenge cooler air from side louvres but have three misgivings:

1. There is not much air flow to be taken from the side louvres.

2. They are almost a thousand pounds and is it therefore diminishing returns.

I have bought a sports exhaust so hope if the engine exhausts and breathes a bit better I may get some lower rev torque.

Has anyone fitted an after market air filter (Pipercross etc) in standard filter housing and noticed any improvement?

Had no idea they were that expensive, mine was fitted on the car when I bought it (Used car), no idea therefore of the pre and post effects but it certainly makes a wonderful induction noise. I posted some photos of it on here so they should be in the Gallery.

I had the sports exhaust and a K&N aftermarket airfilter fitted to my 44 sport. No power difference noted at all, the exhaust did sound good though. The air filter was about £50 and fitted into the existing housing no problem.

Just had a look at Rapideengineering.co.uk KnN Filter kit - 18 good pics on their web site.

The price is/was £420 + Vat +postage if so this seems a good solution and one I will try.

Seems to create good power boost at 2000rpm - so cheap HP

On my 2009 4/4 Sport I have removed the air filter box (difficult to work on and to change the filter element) and intake pipe completely and changed it for an open air filter K&N type 57-0686 directly fitted to the intake port via a short elbow type intake pipe with reconnection of the MAF sensor.
Fresh air is taken underneath the radiator through a funnel and some piping.

Likewise, except mine was ITG. The same result as well!
