How can you easily test a fuse and be sure it is okay, or not okay?

Some have a small window in the back of the blades plastic and if you have a test lamp with a fine probe you can check for feed on either side, you would have to check which are permanent lives and then live in the different key positions or just put the ignition on. Otherwise remove the fuse and use an Ohms meter (the buzzer on some test meters) for a reading.

Great the problem is located!
Remains the question if also the root cause was a faulty degraded fuse, or is there a real electrical issue in the circuit the fuse guards?
Was the blown fuse the disease or a sympton?
Kind Regards,
Bert

If the fuse tested OK, I'd say it was an iffy fuse, not a blown fuse. Something as simple as a dry joint or a bad crimp.

You can buy indicating fuses that light up when they blow, maybe something to consider?

By the way which fuse was it?

I was checking various unused connectors for a 12V feed using a multimeter. I guess it is possible that I shorted out two wires that resulted in a blown fuse: I'm not certain.

Very much so.
It was one of the small fuses, 5A and it powers the instruments.

Peter, I have suffered exactly the same, which is what I was describing previously, I checked all fuses which looked ok, and tested ok, but a 10 amp on the low tension circuit had blown for the reason described. I resorted to Rosie beng rescued to the dealer who found it after an hour. Very embarrassing, so it either failed naturally or you blew it like mine I'd.

cheers

Blade fuses are great at hiding the fact that they have blown.

Been there on my other roady.
