It adds only 5 km h to over 5,000 rpm in fifth gear, especially puts money in the pocket.

the pulley is aluminum with steel side panels set, I did not think to test for hardness of aluminum pulley with original, I would be tempted in a fabricated steel with a Thermo treatment, puts it is a lot of work for me.

I agree steel would be preferred however it will be interesting to see how long this aluminium one lasts.

Anyone thought of titanium? Seems to be the "replacement material of choice" for top end bike owners.
Hard, light, doesn't corrode. But expensive and needs special skills to machine.

a pulley mounted steel with aluminum hub would be more than enough see sheet metal stamped without machining, it is recommended not to clean titanium with trichlorethylene because it creates a surface that can corrosion creates primers cracks in the duration of time, the Pinion of bevelbox 32 steel tooth do not wear, so with 66 tooth should be everlasting, mounting the steel pulley should be like for pulley plastic. http://www.supermax.net/Pages/home.asp

He acquired a new rear pulley for when I show up again as the noise and chirping has picked up and I can feel the wear on the teeth already. He had sent it off to the platers in anticipation so they could anodize it even more. It is still only aluminum, however. The belts, being made of Kevlar or carbon fiber, are just as tough as steel and should last well over 100,000 miles if set up properly. I think they'll eat the aluminum once again. I don't know why I have been blessed with the ability to demolish the rear pulley but I have. The forward pulley attached to the bevel box is made of that same tough steel that drill bits are made of and shows absolutely zero sign of wear!
What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.
